There are still two weeks to go until the opening of Germany's oldest Christmas market, which has a few new things to offer this year.

Preparations for the 590th Dresden Striezelmarkt are in full swing. The construction of Germany's oldest Christmas market is on schedule, as Mayor of Economic Affairs Jan Pratzka (CDU) said at the presentation of the program. The huts, a pyramid and a candle arch have already been erected.

From November 29 to December 24, 214 stands will attract visitors to the Altmarkt. 90,000 visitors are expected every day. After the traditional ecumenical church service, the Dresden Kreuzchor choir will perform a concert with a message of peace to get people in the mood for the Advent season.

New additions to the program

The Stollen Festival is planned for 7 December. New to the program is the Day of Christmas Crafts on 15 December, which will focus on Saxon craft traditions such as stollen baking and woodturning.

The Striezelkinderfest will also be celebrated for the first time. On 22 December, children and choirs are invited to join the Striezelmark ensemble to create the program. The festival commemorates the so-called Striezel children, who are also the motto of this year's market. In earlier times, they earned money by selling from vendor's trays at the Striezelmarkt to help their families make ends meet.
