The tree for this year's Christmas market in Leipzig comes from Torgau. After many trees from the Vogtland region had been used in the past, this year the search for a tree was successful in Leipzig and the surrounding area, the city of Leipzig's market office announced on Monday.
According to the information provided, it is a 21-metre-high Douglas fir weighing around five tons. The owner had offered the giant tree himself, as it would have had to be felled soon anyway due to its size and location on the property.
The tree is to be erected on November 9 and decorated with 300 red and gold baubles and around 3,000 lights. The Leipzig Christmas market is scheduled to open from November 28 to December 23.
