It is impossible to imagine the Leipzig Book Fair without colorfully dressed cosplayers. A competition was also on the program on Saturday.

For some visitors, the Leipzig Book Fair is one thing above all else - a big cosplay get-together. Once again this year, numerous imaginatively dressed guests flocked to the exhibition halls, especially to the Manga-Comic-Con, which is a separate trade fair within the book fair.

The book fair was the first event to give manga and comic fans their own bubble, said cosplayer Nogoranz from Würzburg. That's why she has been coming to Leipzig for many years, whenever she can make it. She is on the road as Catwoman with Batman.

Cosplay contest for the best appearance

A cosplay contest is part of the trade fair program on Saturday afternoon. 23 participants will face a jury there. It is not just the costume that is judged, but the entire appearance.

Most cosplayers don't come to the trade fair for the competition, however. It's simply about meeting like-minded people, says Eike (37) from Bavaria, who portrays characters from the "Hazbin Hotel" series with a group of friends. "We come regularly because it's a nice atmosphere and you meet nice people."

Immerse yourself in other characters

Two women from Dresden are at the fair as "Duo Cosplay" in overflowing purple and pink costumes. "We are just two sugar fairies. This is fictitious fantasy cosplay," they said. It took them around three months to complete their costumes. What appeals to them about cosplay is immersing themselves in other characters. "Just getting out of everyday life."
