There is currently a billion euro gap in Saxony's 2025/2026 double budget. The minority government made up of the CDU and SPD wants to plug it with money from various sources. There is a great need for discussion.

The Saxon minority government will meet again on Monday (from 1.30 pm) and Tuesday in Roßwein for a budget retreat. The first meeting of this kind took place in the second half of January. Specifically, the CDU and SPD want to discuss the government draft for the double budget for 2025/2026. It is to be completed by March 24 and then submitted to the state parliament. As things stand, however, the Free State will not have an approved budget until the summer.

After the first closed meeting, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had already prepared the state for difficult times. "There will have to be cuts in all areas," said the CDU politician. This is because there is a gap of around 4.3 billion euros in the budget. Among other things, the government therefore wants to draw on the budget equalization reserve, pay less into the generation fund and also save on personnel. The results of the closed meeting are to be presented on Tuesday in Roßwein.
