Today, 18 percent of all people living in the state are organized in a sports club. The development in children's and youth sports is particularly pleasing.

Organized sport in Saxony has more members than ever before. Saxony's clubs gained 25,891 new members compared to the previous year. As the Saxon State Sports Association (LSB) announced after the latest survey, 726,216 people are active in 4,330 sports clubs. This represents an increase of 3.7 per cent in organized sport in the Free State compared to the previous year. In the past three years, the clubs have welcomed more than 75,000 new members.

The level of organization thus reached almost 18 percent of the Saxon population. One in six people in Saxony is now a member of one of the sports clubs organized in the state sports association. 62 large sports clubs each have more than 1,000 members, which is also a record level. In the 7 to 14 age group, every second child is a member of a sports club.

"This very pleasing growth would be inconceivable without the tireless voluntary commitment in our clubs," emphasized the President of the Saxony State Sports Association, Ulrich Franzen. "Our volunteers play a key role in ensuring that high-quality sporting activities are available for all generations and that sport in Saxony has such a strong appeal and positive impact."
