In the European elections on June 9, people in Saxony will be able to choose between 34 parties and political associations. That is six fewer than in the last election to the EU Parliament in 2019, said state election director Martin Richter on Thursday. "The ballot paper will be around 81 centimetres long." In addition to the parties represented in the federal and state parliaments, smaller parties such as the Partei der Vernunft and the V-Partei für Vegetarier und Veganer are also included. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is also new.
The election to the European Parliament is a list election, there are no direct candidates. Every voter has one vote. A total of 96 members of parliament are elected in Germany. In Saxony, around 3.3 million people are eligible to vote. 16 and 17-year-olds are also allowed to vote.
