The polling stations for the European and local elections in Saxony closed at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. The count for the elections to the European Parliament and local councils will now begin. The order of counting has been determined. The votes for the European elections will be determined first, followed by the municipal and district councils. The results of the European elections are expected before midnight.

By the afternoon, voter turnout in the Free State was similar to five years ago. According to the State Statistical Office, 31.4 percent of those eligible to vote had cast their ballot by 2.00 pm. Five years ago, this figure was 31.9 percent. This figure does not include postal votes. In Saxony's three largest cities, however, there was a significantly higher voter turnout up to this point than in 2019.

The polling stations had been open since 8.00 a.m. and around 3.3 million people in Saxony were called to vote for the European Parliament and local representatives.
