Thanks to the intervention of the Hardship Commission, 23 rejected asylum seekers in Saxony were granted a residence permit after all last year. Among them were eight children. In total, the commission received 43 new applications concerning 77 people at risk of deportation from Venezuela, Georgia and Iraq, including 23 children. 13 applications were withdrawn.
In 21 cases, the commission saw urgent humanitarian or personal reasons and submitted hardship requests to the Ministry of the Interior, which makes the final decision on whether to grant a residence permit. In 17 cases, it has already granted the request, in four cases no decision has yet been made.
There were many applications from people who "should actually have left the country", reported the chairman of the commission, Saxony's Commissioner for Foreigners Geert Mackenroth. The commission did not deal with two of the 43 cases due to absolute grounds for exclusion, ten will only be discussed this year.
Individual consideration of each case Standard
The commission members consider each case individually, taking into account the living situation, previous and expected integration performance, language development, livelihood, social environment and previous residence of those affected. "Hardship cases have nothing to do with the current discussion about increased deportations," emphasized Mackenroth.
