With a knockout in stoppage time, Jahn Regensburg won the top match of the 3rd Football League at leaders Dynamo Dresden and took the lead in the table. Former Dresden player Florian Ballas (90.+3), of all people, headed the visitors to victory in front of 29,578 spectators at the Rudolf Harbig Stadium on Sunday. It was the ninth win in a row for Regensburg. Dynamo, on the other hand, missed out on the third league record after eleven home wins in a row.
Dresden got off to the better start in the match. However, they failed to score the opening goal. Tom Zimmerschied (16) first failed to hit the post and shortly afterwards Regensburg's Robin Ziegele (22) stopped the attacker, who was ready to shoot again, at the last second. For their part, the visitors rarely really penetrated deep into SGD's half. Instead, Jahn concentrated more on defending. As the home side then lacked both consistency and accuracy in their attacking actions, the expected game of patience developed between the two best defensive lines.
The second half began with a warning shot for the hosts. Regensburg's Christian Viet (46) took the measure immediately after the restart and forced Dresden goalkeeper Stefan Drljaca into a flying save. After that, SGD once again dictated the play. In the 50th minute, it was Zimmerschied again who could have opened the scoring. After a largely uneventful final phase, ex-Dynamo captain Ballas (90.+3) scored the winner with a header.
