RB Leipzig are apparently interested in Jan-Niklas Beste. According to a report in the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" newspaper, the 25-year-old could be signed during the winter break to relieve pressure on left-back David Raum. Beste moved from Heidenheim to Benfica Lisbon in the summer, but does not have a regular place there.
According to LVZ, Beste could come to Saxony on loan. The transfer would make perfect sense for Leipzig. Beste is versatile on the left flank, can also play with space in a more attacking role and is a very good set-piece taker. Beste was called up for the national team for the first time in March, but had to pull out due to an adductor injury.
Not a regular at Benfica
Leipzig are looking to strengthen their squad in the winter. Raum's absence for several months due to a syndesmosis tear in the first half of the season revealed the shortage of personnel on the left flank. A loan would be no problem, and Benfica are also said to prefer this solution.
Beste moved from Heidenheim to Portugal in the summer for eight million euros. At the time, Roger Schmidt, who was sacked at the end of August, was still Benfica's coach. Under his successor Bruno Lage, Beste has had a difficult time, with a muscle injury also slowing him down until the end of September. In the league, the left-footer has made eleven appearances so far, only five of them in the starting eleven.
