The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has celebrated its tenth win in the tenth game of this season's Fiba Europe Cup and is now through to the play-off quarter-finals. The club from Saxony defeated CSM Oradea on home court by 101:98 (89:89, 51:40) after overtime on Wednesday. Wesley van Beck (19 points) scored the decisive goal with nine seconds left before the final whistle to make the final score.
In addition, DeAndre Lansdowne (25), Jeffery Garrett (16), Aher Uguak (13) and Tylor Ongwae (10) played a big part in the success. Nijal Pearson (22), Toddrick Gotcher (15), Kris Richard, Erick Neal (14 each), Catalin Baciu (11) and Jonathan Arledge (10) scored the most points for the visitors from Romania.
Despite a successful start, the Saxons' run of success held by a thread until the end. The home side led 19:10 after seven minutes, then allowed the visitors to close the gap to 30:28 (14th minute) before pulling away to eleven points by the break.
Despite tying the scores at 58:58, the Niners had everything under control up to 70:60 (29th minute). Yet the game suddenly snapped. The Romanians went 74:70 (32') in front thanks to a 14:0 run and looked like the sure winners at 84:79 (37'). However, the German club showed great fighting spirit to save itself in overtime and had the longer breath there.
