The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has reached the final of the Europe Cup for the first time in the club's history. Although the Saxons lost 73:82 (36:39) at home to Bilbao Basket on Wednesday, they had already laid the foundation for their place in the final with a 98:73 victory in the first leg in the Basque country. In the final, the runners-up in the German league will face Turkish representative Bahcesehir Koleji from Istanbul. The first leg will take place on April 17 in Chemnitz, the second leg on April 24 in Turkey.
Wesley van Beck, Kaza Kajami-Keane (12 each), Jeff Garrett (11), Tylor Ongwae and Ousman Krubally (10 each) scored the most points for the Niners in the semi-final home game. Melvin Pantzar (15), Kristian Kullamae (14), Keith Hornsby (11), Trygvvi Hlinason and Thijs de Ridder (10 each) played the biggest part in the visitors' success.
The home side quickly trailed 0:4 (2.), but after six minutes it was 14:9 in front and initially held that lead until 29:24 (12.). However, the Spaniards did not give up and were three points ahead at the break. However, the home side had ensured a preliminary decision in this duel at 53:47 (27') and then took it easy.
