Benjamin Sesko, who is being courted by top European clubs, is ignoring speculation that he might leave RB Leipzig. "I'm not even thinking about it," said the Slovenian international after the 2-0 win against FC St. Pauli. Sesko had scored the opener himself and set up the second goal through Xavi Simons. "My goal is to concentrate on every game here in Leipzig and to win them."
Interest from the Premier League
After his extension until 2029 in the summer, Sesko's contract reportedly no longer contains an exit clause. RB blocked all inquiries in the winter. According to pay-TV broadcaster Sky, there is nevertheless an agreement with the RB bosses that Sesko could leave next summer for a transfer fee of at least 70 million euros. Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC and Manchester United are said to be interested from the English Premier League - Sesko's preferred destination.
He is currently the best striker at Leipzig and has pushed Loïs Openda to the bench in coach Marco Rose's new system with just one striker. The 21-year-old has scored 14 goals in 29 competitive games this season.
According to Rose, Sesko is nowhere near the end of his development. "Consistency, latching on to more balls with his physicality and decision-making," said the coach, outlining his attacker's areas for improvement. "When he sees the goal, he makes many, many really good decisions and has a great shot."
Technique meets cleverness: Sesko's impressive goal
The 1.95-metre striker proved that with his goal against St. Pauli. Sesko already had a clear path to goal in a half-left position in the penalty area, but decided against a direct finish. "I normally shoot there, but when the ball was next to me, I saw that the defender was going down," said Sesko. He calmly allowed Pauli's David Nemeth to slide into space, made another save and tucked the ball into the far corner.
