The Niners Chemnitz have followed up their surprising victory at Alba Berlin with another away win in the German Basketball League. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore won 68:60 (35:37) at the Rostock Seawolves and so celebrated its third successive triumph. The visitors' best scorer was Victor Bailey Jr. with 14 points.
The Niners got off to the better start and quickly took a 6:0 lead. Meanwhile, Rostock, which had the best three-point haul of all BBL teams before the game, struggled to put the ball in the basket from beyond the arc. It was only Bryce Hamilton's fifth attempt that tied the scores at 9:9. The lead switched back and forth between the two teams several times until midway through the second quarter, when Rostock was constantly ahead.
After the break, Chemnitz then went 4:41 minutes without conceding a point, but was not able to take advantage of Rostock's weak spell to pull away. The home side proved to be more accurate again at the end of the third quarter and went into the final period with a narrow lead. However, Chemnitz pulled 66:58 ahead with around two minutes remaining, thanks in part to its strong defending, and did not let victory slip from its grasp.
