The Niners Chemnitz basketball team finished the regular season in third place. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore decided the final game for bronze against Würzburg Baskets on Sunday 79:66 (38:24) in their favor. In the play-off quarter-finals, the club from Saxony will probably face newly promoted Rasta Vechta in the best-of-five series on May 17 in the first encounter in front of a home crowd.
Wesley van Beck (17), Aher Uguak (15), Jeff Garrett (13) and Kevin Yebo (12) played the biggest part in the Niners' 26th win of the season. Darius Perry (15), Isaiah Washington (13) and Otis Livingstone II (10) scored the most points for Würzburg.
The home side laid the foundation for its success in the second quarter. Würzburg only managed to score six points against the Niners' tough defense. The home side turned a 20:22 deficit (15') into a 38:22 lead (20') with an 18:0 run and did not let this advantage slip from its grasp. The club from Saxony had a far better shooting percentage from the floor (48:38 percent) and conceded just nine turnovers. Würzburg gave the ball away 13 times in its own attack.
