SC Magdeburg wins clearly against Potsdam despite problems

SC Magdeburg continues to keep pace with leaders MT Melsungen in the German Handball League. SCM won 25:15 (13:7) against 1. VfL Potsdam despite a weak shooting percentage in front of 6,600 spectators. The bottom team was unable to capitalize on Magdeburg's mistakes.

With one point more than leaders Melsungen, SCM remain in the championship race, while Potsdam remain bottom of the table with no points. Philipp Weber was the best scorer with six goals, while goalkeeper Martin Tomovski stood out for Potsdam with 18 saves.

The SCM, which celebrated its 70th birthday with a choreo, a special jersey and many old legends, was still without Gisli Kristjansson. Instead, Omar Ingi Magnusson got his first minutes since his injury last December.

Weak chance conversion on both sides

Magdeburg quickly went three goals ahead, but Tim Hornke then missed three times. As nothing came together for the visitors in attack, SCM pulled five goals ahead after just 13 minutes (6:1). Both teams outdid each other in missing chances to score, but the visitors were not able to use that to reduce the deficit.

After the break, Magdeburg took it too easy in attack and missed the first shots, allowing Potsdam to cut the deficit to four goals. Potsdam's Ole Schramm was shown the red card after a blow against Weber (36th minute) and Josip Simic (43rd minute) was also sent off with a red card after three time penalties. Magdeburg then pulled away to seven goals and decided the game.
