The women of RB Leipzig remain stuck in the relegation zone of the Bundesliga. At the end of the first half of the season, Leipzig coach Saban Uzun's team conceded their seventh defeat in eleven games with a 2-0 (0-1) loss to SC Freiburg. Cora Zicai put the visitors ahead after 34 minutes at the Cottaweg training center on Saturday. Leela Egli scored the final goal in stoppage time (90.+3).
In a match lacking in highlights, Freiburg took the lead with their first chance. A long ball from Annabel Schasching was underestimated by Leipzig goalkeeper Elvira Herzog. While the ball landed on the crossbar, Herzog was lying on the ground, so Zicai, who was alone in front of goal, had no difficulty heading the rebounding ball into the orphaned goal.
In the second half, Freiburg had three great chances to decide the game early on, while Leipzig remained mostly too harmless, but were unlucky with a crossbar goal by Jenny Hipp (70'). Egli, a new signing from Switzerland, made the away win perfect with her debut goal in the Bundesliga.
