The Chemnitz Niners' games in the German Basketball League or the Champions League are still inconsistent, the goals remain unchanged. "We still have work to do. But from my point of view, we're on track," managing director Steffen Herhold told the "Freie Presse" newspaper. "Things are going okay in the Bundesliga, although the defeat in Braunschweig before the international break was a minor setback. We're learning a lot in the Champions League and can see that teams like Manresa and Derthona are still a step above us."
In spite of this, the Niners want to reach the international play-offs and then enter the round of the best 16 teams via the play-offs and thus achieve their international goal. The sixth-placed team in the Bundesliga is also on course. According to Herhold, these goals are designed to be "constant over several years".
In order to achieve these goals this season, there are still "many small construction sites that become visible from time to time", said the 46-year-old. A new point guard could be a piece of the puzzle if he fits in with coach Rodrigo Pastore's style of play. Chemnitz is still "lagging a little behind our standards" at times, says Herhold, "but the players, coaches and office are working with the utmost ambition to close the gap step by step."
