Red sinner Mats Hummels feels primarily responsible for Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 defeat against RB Leipzig on Saturday evening. "The defeat is down to me, I should never go down for a sliding tackle and leave the boys on the pitch with one man less for 80 minutes," the international wrote on the social media platform X immediately after the final whistle. Hummels also praised: "A big compliment to the fans and the team for their morale today."
Attacking the post by his central defender, BVB coach Edin Terzic said on pay-TV channel Sky: "I think we can leave it at that." A little later, the coach criticized: "Mats knows himself that he can't go down there - not in that action and especially not in that minute of the game."
Hummels had already been shown the red card in the 15th minute after an emergency brake against Lois Openda. Referee Sven Jablonski had initially ruled that the foul had occurred inside the penalty area and awarded a penalty and yellow card to Hummels. After video evidence, this decision was reversed.
