The Niners from Chemnitz have signed American Khyri Thomas for the rest of the Bundesliga season. The 28-year-old guard played for Turkish first-division club Aliaga Petkim until May of last year. The 1.91-meter-tall Thomas played 42 NBA games for the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets as well as 13 Euroleague games for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
"We already had Khyri on our radar last summer. For family reasons, however, a transfer did not materialize at the time. We are all the happier that it has now worked out and hope that Khyri will soon be helping us on the pitch," said head coach Rodrigo Pastore.
The fans still have to be patient. The new signing's last competitive match was on May 18 of last year. The man from Nebraska, who has often struggled with minor and moderate injuries recently, is still undergoing targeted treatment. Thomas, who will wear the back number 23 in the future, is expected to start training with the team on Friday.
