Sports director Rouven Schröder has given RB Leipzig's professionals a top character certificate. "I take my hat off to how the team has developed its character at this level," Schröder told the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" (Friday). That also applies to departures Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku, "who have performed extremely down to earth despite their age and status," said the 47-year-old, who previously worked at Fürth, Bremen, Mainz and most recently FC Schalke. "In fact, the guys here are all like that. They're tight-knit. Nobody takes themselves too seriously. We don't need anyone who thinks he's going it alone here. Only in the team structure it works," Schröder explained.

Since April 1, he has been sports director at RB and, together with sports board member Max Eberl, sports coordinator Felix Schröder (contract design) and head coach Marco Rose, handles the transfers at the Saxons. This summer, RB posted a transfer surplus of 88 million euros, took a total of 241 million euros for Gvardiol and Co. and spent 153 million euros on the ten new arrivals.

According to Schröder, market values play no role in the negotiations, but it is "remarkable what power this has developed." Overall, he sees the sums as "bizarre", "the market determines the sums, as everywhere, but it is already a crazy business."
