RB Leipzig have another candidate in their search for a coach, according to Sky. The broadcaster reports that Danny Röhl is on the Bundesliga club's list. The former assistant to Hansi Flick at FC Bayern Munich and the national soccer team is currently in his first spell in charge at English second division club Sheffield Wednesday. Röhl and his team are in 13th place in the Championship.
RB Leipzig has not yet commented on any candidates. A new coach is being sought for the coming season. Marco Rose recently had to vacate his post and Zsolt Löw has been seconded to Leipzig as interim coach from his position as Head of Soccer Development at RB and assistant to Jürgen Klopp until the end of the season.
Experience at Leipzig
Before Röhl, Oliver Glasner, Roger Schmidt and Matthias Jaissle had also been speculated as candidates. Sky did not name a source in its report on Röhl. Born in Zwickau, he was already youth coach at RB and assistant to the then coach Ralph Hasenhüttl. The 35-year-old then went to Southampton FC in England with the Austrian.
Titles in Munich, disappointment in Qatar
Under Flick, Munich enjoyed a season with many titles, including the 2020 Champions League triumph, but also the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the national team. When Flick had to leave in September 2023, Röhl's time at the DFB was also over, and a month later he went to Sheffield.
