SC Magdeburg celebrated a must-win in the Bundesliga, but lost Omar Ingi Magnusson to injury. The team won 35:26 (19:12) against SG BBM Bietigheim. Manuel Zehnder was Magdeburg's top scorer with seven goals. The SCM is still two points behind the top two from Melsungen and Hanover.
Before kick-off, the club from the Elbe city announced to great fanfare that center Magnus Saugstrup had extended his contract until 2029. SCM coach Bennet Wiegert was quoted on the club's website as saying that it was "a great sign" that one of the "best circle players in the world" was committing to the club for the long term.
Magnusson twists his ankle
The joy was dampened by an injury to Magnusson, who twisted his right ankle after a jump in the second attack. The Icelander was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
The SCM rested Saugstrup and captain Christian O'Sullivan, among others, during the game, but still had the visitors largely under control - although they were unable to pull away at first. It was only after twenty minutes that a gap opened up, which SCM extended to seven goals by the break. The one-sided game continued in the same vein after the break, with Magdeburg never letting any doubts about their victory arise.
