FC Erzgebirge Aue conceded defeat in their first competitive match under coach Jens Härtel. The Saxons lost 1:2 (1:1) at Hannover 96 II to kick off the second half of the 3rd division. Goalscorer Marcel Bär put the Violets ahead in the tenth minute with his tenth goal of the season. Stefano Marino (32) equalized for the home side in the first half after a poorly defended free-kick.
Aue's Kilian Jakob then received two unnecessary cautions in the space of just two minutes and was sent off with a yellow card (59'). Keanu Brandt sealed the defeat for the Saxons with a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. Aue thus remain seventh, but could still slip down the table over the course of the matchday.
Aue weakened by flu
Härtel has been coach at FCE since the beginning of January. A flu epidemic weakened his team on his debut. A total of five players were absent. Despite this, his team had the better chances at the start. Bär had the lead on his feet in the ninth minute. Shortly afterwards, he headed in a cross.
However, 96 improved in the fog and difficult pitch conditions. Jakob committed two fouls in quick succession and kicked the ball away after the first. Aue still had chances but failed to score.
