The Niners Chemnitz basketball team is still riding a wave of success. The club from Saxony won the East derby at MBC Syntainics by 111:95 (50:45) on Holy Saturday. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore remain hot on the heels of leaders FC Bayern Munich in the German league with their 21st win of the season.
Jeff Garrett (23 points), Kevin Yebo (18) and Aher Uguak (17) played the biggest part in the success in front of 3,000 spectators in the Stadthalle in Weißenfels. Wesley van Beck, Kaza Kajami-Keane (13 each) and DeAndre Lansdowne (10) also scored in double figures. Even 41 points from the outstanding Johnathan Stove were not enough for the home side. Jhonathan Dunn and Martin Breunig each scored 17 points.
The visitors pulled away for the first time early in the game. Chemnitz turned a 3:7 deficit (4th minute) into a 19:7 lead (7th minute) with a 16:0 run, which it stretched to 44:21 by the 14th minute. However, Weißenfels, who mostly played with an eight-man rotation, did not give up and fought its way back to 45:47 shortly before the break. The visitors pulled away again in the third quarter from 50:48 (21') to 68:56 (25'). As the game wore on, the decimated club from Weißenfels was then no longer able to do much to counter Saxony's pressure in attack.
