LKT team back in professional cycling with women's selection

After a three-year break, LKT Team Brandenburg will return to professional cycling with a women's team in the 2024 season. "We want to support and contribute to the positive development and professionalization of women's cycling. It's time for women," said team manager Steffen Blochwitz.

For the 2024 season, the new team has already filled eight of a possible ten spots. The most prominent driver is Lena Charlotte Reißner. The 22-year-old from Erfurt was European champion in the team pursuit in 2021 and is one of the extended group of candidates for the 2024 Olympics. Five-time Olympian Trixi Worrack (41) and former points race world champion Stephanie Gaumnitz (35) have been signed on as sports directors.

The newly formed team will apply to the cycling world governing body UCI for a Continental license, making it the fifth German professional women's team after Canyon SRAM Racing, Canyon SRAM Generation (both Leipzig), Ceratizit WNT Pro Cycling Team (Kempten) and MAXX Solar Rose Women Racing (Erfurt). From 2007 to 2020, LKT Team Brandenburg already competed as a men's Continental team and proved to be a springboard into the World Tour, especially for later pros such as Roger Kluge, Nikias Arndt and Max Kanter.
