In Saxony, additional places in halls of residence for students and trainees are being created with federal aid. However, the Left Party believes this is not enough.

With the help of the federal "Young Living" program, 189 new student residences are being created in Dresden and Freiberg. In addition, four halls of residence for vocational school students and trainees in Leipzig and Zittau will receive funding. A total of 32.38 million euros will be invested in the construction and modernization of accommodation this year. This is according to an answer from the Ministry of Science to a minor question from Left Party politician Juliane Nagel.

The Left Party welcomed the federal "Young Housing" program, Nagel said. However, the discrepancy between the available funding and the reported financial requirements was huge. The student unions had registered a requirement of 66.6 million euros. For the creation of student accommodation, 21.5 million would be needed.

The funding program must therefore be massively increased, Nagel demanded. In addition, companies would have to participate in the financing of trainee residences.
