The Saxon Greens fear for the fruits of their government work over the past five years. This is because projects are now being called into question again - for example in the area of wind power.

The Greens are warning the minority government in Saxony not to turn back the clock on energy policy. Former Energy Minister Wolfram Günther is referring to statements made by Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU) regarding the area target for the expansion of wind power plants. She had doubted the sense of rigid targets. By order of the federal government, two percent of the state's land area must be designated for wind energy by 2032. Günther wanted to achieve the target ahead of schedule.

Minister does not believe in rigid area targets

"Here in Saxony, this regulation is difficult to implement because we are a densely populated state with partly unfavorable topography. In my conversations on site, I also hear time and again that the population fears considerable burdens when implementing the rigid area target," Kraushaar had argued. She argues that more energy can now be generated on the same amount of land due to increasingly powerful turbines.

Kraushaar believes it is right to leave it up to the federal states themselves to decide whether they want to contribute to the energy supply by using wind, solar or another renewable energy source. "Of course, the repowering of existing wind turbines plays an important role here."

Greens accuse the CDU of "lack of industrial policy planning"

Günther - in his new role as economic policy spokesperson for the Greens in the state parliament - accused the CDU of "lack of industrial policy planning". Saxony's companies are dependent on a secure supply of affordable electricity around the clock. The way to achieve this is an intelligent mix of wind and solar energy in combination with additional power plants. That is why there must be a consistent expansion of renewable energy.
