The tablecloth between the Greens and the CDU in Saxony appears to be completely torn. The wounds left by the Green bashing by head of government Kretschmer during the election campaign are clearly too deep.

The Greens do not want to be a majority procurer for a CDU-SPD minority government in Saxony. In an interview with the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" and the "Sächsische Zeitung", Deputy Prime Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) also made serious accusations against the CDU/CSU: "We did not defame or lie during the election campaign and are not now abandoning the country to chaos. The CDU did that." CDU Minister President Michael Kretschmer had sharply attacked the Greens during the election campaign.

Günther was cautious about the "consultation mechanism" that the CDU and SPD want to introduce as a minority government. This is intended to involve the other parliamentary groups in legislative initiatives at an early stage. "We are not refusing to engage in talks. However, we lack an idea of how the mechanism should work," emphasized Günther, who represented the Department for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture in Kretschmer's cabinet.

Günther sees CDU facing a shambles

"You can't solve the political chaos by throwing around a term like consultation mechanism, the functioning of which has not even been clarified. The mistake lies in the fact that the CDU and its Minister President did not think things through to the end during the election campaign: They took aim at the Greens and shot up the democratic center. Now the CDU is facing a shambles because it cannot achieve a democratic majority," explained the Green politician.

Günther accused the CDU and SPD of normalizing the AfD because it is also to be included in the consultation mechanism. "The CDU and SPD are saying that they do not want to work with the AfD. At the same time, the AfD is to be consulted. And the CDU says that AfD proposals can be discussed. The CDU and SPD are accepting this contradiction, they are not resolving it."

Saxony threatened with standstill according to the Greens

Günther referred to the Left Party's proposal to tolerate the existing government of CDU, Greens and SPD until the next double budget is passed. "If the CDU were to adjust its relationship with the Left to reality, there would be planning security for this country. The CDU wants nothing to do with this. Instead, the CDU and SPD are heading for a minority government. It is unclear how majorities for the election of the Minister President or the budget are to be achieved. Saxony is now entering a period of standstill."

"The acid test will be the budget. Even in a coalition with a majority, drawing up a budget is an arduous business. How are the CDU and SPD supposed to succeed without their own majority?" asked the minister. The Greens or another parliamentary group would not agree to the budget just because they were allowed to renegotiate two or three points. "A budget is always an overall package."
