Founded in 1710 after the invention of European hard porcelain, the Meissen manufactory is world-famous. The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen are now shedding light on this rather unexplored chapter of its history.

The Kulturstiftung der Länder is funding an exhibition by the Dresden State Art Collections on the Meissen porcelain manufactory in the GDR next year. "The Blue Swords: Meissen under Socialism" (September 20, 2025 to February 22, 2026) is the first comprehensive exhibition on this largely unexplored phase of the company's history, according to the institution in Berlin. It is intended to contribute to the examination of German-German history and the cultural heritage of the GDR.

The presentation is one of a total of ten projects nationwide for which the Foundation Board approved a total of around 700,000 euros. The Kulturstiftung der Länder develops, promotes and supports nationally significant initiatives and projects in the fields of art and culture on behalf of the federal states.
