Dance and theater festival: "critical, poetic and relevant".

The Leipzig dance and theater festival Euro-Scene wants to take a look at the challenges and crises in society with its new edition. "This year we have summed it up with the three terms critical, poetic and relevant," said festival director Christian Watty at the presentation of the program in Leipzig on Wednesday. Thus, among other things, topics such as war and peace, capitalism or colonialism will be critically examined.

The festival will take place for the 33rd time. From Nov. 7 to 12, 26 events are planned at various locations in Leipzig, including productions from Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Kosovo, Portugal, Slovenia, Syria and Ukraine, he said. In addition to socially critical themes, the program also includes poetic and very intimate pieces. Announced are, among other things, a world premiere and six German premieres.

In addition to a wide variety of productions, including those by Belgian choreographer Miet Warlop, South African performer Steven Cohen and French dance artist Jérôme Bel, artist talks, a workshop lasting several days and discussion formats with students are part of the program. Advance ticket sales begin this Saturday (Sept. 30), according to organizers.
