Their return by the jewel thieves a good three years after the burglary of the Dresden Green Vault was a sensation. Now the recovered jewels can be shown - in their old place.

More than four and a half years after the theft of the jewels from the Historic Green Vault in Dresden, the parts of the loot that were later returned by the perpetrators are back in Saxony's famous treasury museum. On Tuesday, the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) will present the previously unrestored pieces of jewelry in their former place in the Jewel Room.

The museum will open to the public the following day. The opening hours have been extended. Access to the reconstructed rooms on the first floor of the Residenzschloss is only possible with timed tickets.

However, the returned jewels are still in the same condition as the investigators found them in a Berlin law firm shortly before Christmas 2022: partially damaged and incomplete. This is because they are evidence in ongoing criminal proceedings in the case. The treasures recovered in the course of a plea bargain in the trial for the burglary remain under the control of the Dresden Regional Court and their condition may not be altered.

Spectacular theft in 2019

The art theft on November 25, 2019 is considered one of the most spectacular in Germany. The perpetrators stole 21 unique pieces of historical jewelry made of diamonds and diamonds and caused over one million euros in damage.

In May 2023, five young men from the Berlin Remmo clan were sentenced to prison for the burglary and arson of a getaway car in the underground car park of a residential building and electricity distribution systems, which has since become legally binding.

At the end of the hearing of evidence, they had returned the majority of the loot through their defence lawyers. However, there is still no trace of three prominent objects with large stones.
