Dancers from all over the world met on Saturday at the "Dresden Dance Cup" for the World Dance Championship in the Saxon capital. As this year's organizer, the TSC Excelsior Dresden, announced, the world championship with a total of 28 couples from 13 nations will be held for the first time in Dresden. Dancers from the USA, Canada and Japan, among others, are to compete in the ballroom arena for the ten-dance world championship (standard and Latin). Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) will act as patron of the event.

The tournament will be held without a ball, said organizer Mike Hartmann. "We have deliberately chosen a pure sports event." However, within the framework of the "Dresden Dance Cup" not only the world championship will be held, but several tournaments - especially in the youth classes. In addition, a tournament in the so-called S-class main group - the "Dance National League" - is to take place in the evening. For this, the organizer had invited the best dance couples in Europe. In total, more than 100 couples will take to the dance floor on Saturday.

The "Dresden Dance Cup" started on Saturday morning with junior tournaments for dancers aged 10 to 18. The preliminary round of the world championships, which will then also feature Dresden's second dance couple Steve Hädicke and Antonia Adam, was scheduled for the afternoon.
