Upcycling describes the reuse of waste products or materials that are no longer used. This can even be used to create jewelry.

The Grassi Museum of Applied Arts in Leipzig is presenting modern jewelry by artists from Hong Kong in a special exhibition. The special feature here is the materials, as waste products were used for the creations. According to the museum, this continues a tradition of sustainability that has been anchored in the art of goldsmithing for centuries. The exhibition "The Art of Upcycling" can be seen from October 16 to October 27 as part of the "Grassimesse".

"Upcycling in jewelry design ties in with the centuries-old practice of melting down metal objects and re-setting precious stones in order to reuse valuable materials," the museum said. However, contemporary artists are going one step further and combining waste or found objects with pearls and precious metals. This creates something new from waste, which is not only aesthetically pleasing.

"The art of upcycling" is not just a presentation of unique pieces of jewelry, but also a cultural movement that highlights the value and importance of sustainability and the conscious use of resources, the Grassi Museum described its aim.
