The comic magazine "Mosaik" will be 70 years old next year. It was launched in the GDR in 1955 and is now the oldest German comic still being published. The main characters Abrax, Brabax and Califax start their 50th year of adventure in January. "Such a remarkable event must be celebrated - twelve times. In other words, once every month," announced the Berlin publisher Mosaik, brick by brick.
In January, a 50-year-old promise to readers will be kept: The Abrafaxe meet Till Eulenspiegel. This had already been promised in January 1976 when Abrax, Brabax and Califax started their adventures - replacing the original comic heroes Dig, Dag and Digedag. With a view to the eleven further issues in the anniversary year, publishing spokesman Robert Löffler told dpa: "As always with "Mosaik", we won't reveal what happens next."
The first "Mosaik" issue was published in December 1955. Graphic artist Hannes Hegen created Dig, Dag and Digedag - the Digedags. They traveled to different countries and through different times. Hegen quit after a dispute with the GDR publisher Junge Welt in 1975.
