Sugar, flour and eggs are particularly in demand as ingredients for baking during the Advent season. Prices have developed differently in Saxony.

Consumer prices in Saxony have risen by 2.9 percent in the space of a year. Food, clothing and non-alcoholic drinks, for example, are more expensive than a year ago. In contrast, home textiles such as blankets and bed linen are currently cheaper, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz.

According to preliminary figures, the trend for baking ingredients, which are in demand before Christmas, is mixed: Butter is significantly more expensive in Saxony than in November 2023 (up 38.6 percent), as is quark (up 7.2 percent) - sugar (down 23.4 percent) and flour (down 6.8 percent) cost significantly less than a year ago. In October, the annual inflation rate in Saxony was 2.8 percent.
