Salmonella is detected in a "Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate". The product is recalled. What should I do?

The manufacturer Ludwig Weinrich GmbH & Co KG is recalling the product "Way To Go - Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate, 180g" due to the risk of salmonella. Batch L25083a with the best-before date 19.2.2026 is affected, the discounter Lidl announced. The salmonella was detected during an investigation.

The chocolate was sold in its stores in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. The company has reportedly already withdrawn the product from sale.

Salmonella can cause stomach and intestinal illnesses. According to Lidl, certain groups of people such as infants, small children, pregnant women, senior citizens and people with a weakened immune system can develop serious illnesses. "Customers should therefore be aware of the recall and not consume the affected product."
