Dresden implements energy-saving measures for the second year in a row

For the second year in a row, Dresden wants to save energy in winter. The temperature in public buildings will be lowered and corridors, stairwells and rooms without workplaces will be heated to a maximum of 16 degrees, as the city announced on Thursday. In addition, the purely decorative lighting on buildings in the state capital is to be switched off.

The city had already implemented an energy-saving plan last year in the wake of the gas crisis. The evaluation confirmed that the measures were able to cushion the increase in energy costs and relieve the municipal budget. For example, Dresden schools saved around 18 percent on heating and 6 percent on electricity. The New Town Hall even consumed 37 percent less heat and 6 percent less electricity.
