Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports have so far been largely spared from the disruption at German air traffic control. "So far, only one Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Leipzig has been affected," said airport spokesman Uwe Schuhart when asked at midday. There are currently no disruptions at Dresden Airport.
A disruption at German air traffic control had led to problems throughout German airspace. According to air traffic control, the disruption, which has since been rectified, caused delays of varying degrees throughout Germany.
The disruption mainly caused flight plan data and weather data to be lost, as the authority announced. "The disruption has been rectified and the systems have been up and running again since 10.25 a.m.," it added. However, the data lost during the disruption still needs to be updated.
Frankfurt severely affected
There were major problems at Germany's largest airport in Frankfurt: There were "considerable delays in operations and flight cancellations", according to the website of airport operator Fraport. The company said there were around 70 cancellations.
A Lufthansa spokesperson explained that there were isolated flight cancellations and delays, but that long-haul flights were not affected. There could still be effects on the network on Friday.
The airport operator recommends that passengers regularly check the current flight status on the websites of the respective airlines.
