The start of construction on the Wellaune bypass has been delayed. According to the State Office for Road Construction and Transport, the main part of the construction project was originally due to be put out to tender in February 2025. However, as the federal budget has not yet been approved, the financing of the project cannot be secured as planned. This also means that it is unclear when the bypass can be put into operation.
Wellaune is a district of Bad Düben in North Saxony. Three main roads meet in the village. Local residents have therefore long fought for a bypass.
Preliminary work has started
The first preparatory measures for the construction of the bypass have now begun. A search for explosive ordnance is currently underway. This will be immediately followed by archaeological investigations in the area of the future new construction route.
