From the federal budget, six nationally important cultural institutions in Saxony will be funded. The budget committee of the Bundestag released on Thursday almost 26 million euros for this purpose, as the Dresden FDP MP Torsten Herbst announced. The money is available for the renovation and modernization of Hohnstein Castle, the Carl Maria von Weber Museum and the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden, the city halls of Görlitz and Meerane, as well as the new construction of the Kunstgutdepot Leipzig.
These cultural sites are of national importance and identity-forming for the country, said Herbst. "The financial support from the federal government helps preserve our cultural heritage for future generations."
According to Herbst, the Bundestag committee has approved a total of 300 million euros for the "KulturInvest" program, for 76 projects nationwide - including 19 in eastern Germany.
