The "Purple Path" transforms the area around Chemnitz into a unique gallery for contemporary art. Big names such as Tony Cragg meet works by artists from the region.

The "Purple Path" art trail, the largest project in the Capital of Culture year 2025, will be opened with a ceremony in Flöha on Friday (10.00 am). It connects Chemnitz with 38 municipalities in the surrounding area. The result is a large open-air museum for contemporary art. Works by international artists such as Tony Cragg, Rebecca Horn, Leiko Ikemura and Richard Long meet works by artists from the region such as Michael Morgner, Jan Kummer and Osmar Osten.

According to the information provided, works by 90 national and international artists will be shown at 70 different locations. Some of the works will be unveiled on the opening weekend, while others will be added over the course of the year. In addition to the sculptures, there are many other exhibitions and cultural events along the "Purple Path".
