The AfD and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) have engaged in a fierce exchange of blows during a state parliament debate on the war in Ukraine. The background to this was an AfD motion entitled "Finally put an end to the war and the deaths in Ukraine". The motion was rejected by the other parliamentary groups.
BSW leader Sabine Zimmermann accused the AfD of misusing the topic and wanting to demonstrate to the BSW whether it agreed with the motion or not. AfD parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban, on the other hand, described the BSW's behavior as "pathetic". The BSW was trying to avoid responsibility in a "cheap way". Urban had previously sharply criticized arms deliveries to Ukraine in his speech. He said it was irresponsible to keep escalating the situation. The humanitarian crisis is worsening with each passing day.
Zimmermann called the AfD's argumentation "hypocritical". The AfD in the German Bundestag had so far agreed to every proposal for rearmament in Germany. This is irresponsible and hypocritical. Further rearmament would lead to social cuts. The AfD is not a peace party. "They are presenting themselves here as the party of the German arms industry."
