In Saxony, almost every second male voter voted for the AfD in the 2025 general election. According to the State Statistical Office, 43% of male voters and 32% of female voters cast their second vote for the party. Compared to the 2021 federal election, support across all age groups increased by an average of 13 percentage points. The AfD performed particularly well among the under-25s, where it gained more than 19 percentage points.
The Left Party also made significant gains in this group, increasing its share of the vote by almost 16 percentage points. The Greens, on the other hand, lost a good 12 percentage points among young voters. The SPD lost most of its votes among older people, according to the statisticians: Between the ages of 60 and 70, its share of the vote fell by 14 percentage points. The CDU was only able to minimally improve its 2021 result across all age groups.
The results are based on the results of the Representative Electoral Statistics (RWS), which recorded the voting behavior of around three percent of eligible voters in Saxony using data from 103 polling districts and 29 postal voting districts. Voter turnout excluding postal votes was just under 56% - an increase of five percentage points compared to the 2021 federal election. Turnout among 21 to 25-year-olds rose particularly sharply (up 11 percentage points).
