Almost three months ago, parts of Dresden's Carola Bridge collapsed. Now the clean-up work has been forced to take a break.

The demolition of the Carola Bridge in Dresden has to be paused for a short time due to the rising water level of the Elbe. The construction road in the Elbe is flooded, the state capital announced. For this reason, "the demolition work on the horizontal section of Train C of the Carola Bridge will have to be temporarily interrupted".

The Carola Bridge consisted of three traffic lines. On the night of 11 September, a 100-metre section of so-called Train C with a streetcar line collapsed.

At 2.5 meters, the peak of the flood should be reached on Thursday, it was said. "Once the water level has dropped, a decision can be made as to when the construction road can be rehabilitated and demolition can continue."

If the water level drops on Friday and Saturday, the demolition of the horizontal section can probably still be guaranteed until the end of the year. The dredging work from the ship to make the fairway navigable is reportedly continuing.
