The Saxon state capital of Dresden is expected to have over 600,000 inhabitants by 2040. This growth will result from new arrivals and new workers due to planned company relocations.

According to a forecast, the Saxon state capital of Dresden will grow to more than 600,000 inhabitants by 2040. By mid-2023, around 570,000 people will be living in the city. According to the city administration on Wednesday, the growth will be due to inward migration in general and more skilled workers coming to Dresden as a result of companies planning to relocate to the city. At the same time, however, the decline in the birth rate will continue and the demographic change in the east is also progressing.

Statisticians expect Dresden to have 603,400 inhabitants in 2040. By comparison, Saxony's largest city Leipzig had just under 629,000 people last year.
