Following the U-turn by Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) on the issue of stationary border controls, the Federal Police is prepared at the Saxon borders with Poland and the Czech Republic.

Faeser has after long hesitation now but stationary controls on the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland registered with the EU Commission. According to her ministry in Berlin, she justified this step with the limitation of irregular migration and an even stronger fight against smuggling crime. She said the decision would initially take effect for ten days, adding that the notification could be extended up to a total of two months.
