The conservative Heimatunion in the CDU in Saxony is backing Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz in his call for a tougher migration policy. It is good that Merz and General Secretary Carsten Linnemann have struck a "liberating blow" and freed the CDU "from being held hostage by the SPD and Greens", explained the head of the Heimatunion, Sven Eppinger.
He was referring to statements made by both parties to stick to Bundestag motions for a tougher migration policy despite harsh criticism from the SPD and Greens, even if the AfD were to agree. "What is right in the matter does not become wrong because the wrong people agree," Merz said. In the corresponding votes, it is up to the SPD, the Greens and the FDP to prevent "majorities that none of us want".
Only factual policy should count according to the conservatives
The security situation is now so bad that only pure factual policy counts, emphasized Eppinger. "As the CDU, we can no longer afford the luxury of picking and choosing who can agree to the measures we recognize as necessary." Only the result should count: "Tight borders for all those who want to enter the country without a passport or visa, detention and deportation for foreign criminals, no family reunification."
Home Union for CDU minority government in the federal government
The Home Union had also recently spoken out in favor of forming a CDU minority government after the federal elections rather than having to make compromises in a coalition. "The situation of our country no longer allows for compromises," it said.
