Meeting of BSW and SPD in Saxony: constructive atmosphere

After the state elections in Saxony, two potential coalition partners of the CDU have met. Representatives of the state associations of the BSW and SPD met in Dresden for initial talks and spoke of a "very pleasant and constructive atmosphere", according to a joint statement. They emphasized that it was important to get to know each other personally and build trust.

In the state elections on 1 September, the Saxon Union won 31.9 percent of the vote, just ahead of the AfD (30.6 percent). It was followed by the BSW (11.8 percent), the SPD (7.3 percent) and the Greens (5.1 percent). Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) had categorically ruled out cooperation with the AfD and the Left Party. The CDU state executive agreed to offer talks to the alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), the SPD and the Greens.
