Michel and Homann want to remain SPD chairmen

Kathrin Michel and Henning Homann want to remain chairpersons of the SPD Saxony. At the state party conference in June, they will run again as a dual leadership, as Homann said at a press conference in Dresden. "We have already been nominated and are very, very grateful for the support we have received so far."

Double leadership wants to focus on renewal

Homann announced a modernization process for his party. "We know that we are facing major challenges," he said. The SPD needs new answers, for example on the topics of digitalization, the future of work and education. We need to take time for this process of change, said Michel.

According to Homann, the Saxon Social Democrats have already begun with organizational renewal in order to strengthen the base and put the party on a better financial footing in the long term, as well as a strategic realignment.

Homann: "Also ask difficult questions"

The SPD should not be satisfied with the results of the federal and state elections, said Homann. "We must also face up to the unpleasant and difficult questions." The SPD had to reinvent itself, and in Saxony they did not want to wait for the federal party to do so, but rather think for themselves, added Michel. Whether the geopolitical situation or the situation in Germany - everything is changing rapidly. "A party also has to ask itself: Am I still on point now?"

Michel and Homann have been chairmen of the SPD in Saxony since 2021. "The last three and a half years have been anything but easy for us," said Michel. The period was fundamentally characterized by election campaigns. Now they want to establish continuity in the party. The SPD reportedly has 4,600 members in Saxony.
